Mitchell Curley Park Boules Project :
Funding of €33,500 was sought to assist Sligo Borough Council in the development of a new facility -a boulodrome at Mitchell Curley Park The new sports and recreation facility was to cater for the game of boules otherwise known at petanque.
( plus allied sports such as Bocce)
The submission identified that the boulodrome will cater for a range of users, accommodate people with infirmity, wheelchairs and facilitate participation for all users regardless of age or ability. The development will add to the wide range of facilities already available at Mitchell Curley Park and will ensure that the park caters for activities for the broadest spectrum of age groups.
The funding application requested monetary allocation for the provision of fencing, site accommodation works, development of boules area, landscaping. Sligo Local sport and Recreation partnership, of which Sligo Borough Council is an active participant, also previously identified the need for this type of facility. Also given Sligo Borough Council’s links with an area in France , Crozon it was felt that this type of facility would be very appropriate and strengthen our links with our twin city.
